ATO to Crack Down on ‘Contractors’

by Danielle Seagrave, Sunday, 22nd July 2012

The ATO is aiming to audit 20,000 contractors that may not have been paid appropriately by employers. Businesses with less than $2 million turnovers for example cafes, restaurants, real estate agencies and carpenters are being targeted by the ATO Ugg outlet in the latest compliance program in a bid to reduce the number of employees missing out on entitlements due to incorrect Michael Kors Sale contractor statuses. Incorrectly treating staff as contractors affects the taxes paid, superannuation, leave entitlements and award rates and will be severely penalised.
